Trustworthy evidence for the CMDB business case is still lacking.

A back-of-an-envelope re-analysis of Forrester and BMC's own CMDB research is all the IT Skeptic needs to smell the bullshit from New Zealand. With a few simplistic arithmetic exercises he undermines the result of recent Forrester research. The Skeptic doesn't stand alone in his skepticism towards large-scale CMDB projects, several others have contributed to a very sharp discussion on this topic. Unless researchers or providers present unbiased and quantative evidence of the business case for large-scale applications of CMDB tools, this fate will be waiting for them again and again.
