"I too went through long eval period with more than 15 BPM/EA tools based on Gartner and Forrester reports. It was absolutely essential to define what we needed out of a tool before reaching any conclusions. "What questions are you trying to answer?" is where I start."

It seems to be of all times: people looking for tools instead of solutions. The quote above came from a participant in a discussion in ITSM Portal's TOGAF LInkedIn Group, on the use of BPM/EA tools, after several postings had elaborated on the pitfalls of tool selection.

The discussion delivered a number of very useful links oin this topic, including an EA Tools Overview, and the latest edition of the EA Tool Selection Guide.

As usual the real question wasn't addressed: what is the purpose of 'enterprise architecture' and does it deliver added value?
